Is Sore Throat a Symptom of Pregnancy?
Is a sore throat can be early pregnancy sign and symptom? this is the most asked question by wanna be mothers.
Though many women experience sore throat symptoms during early pregnancy, it is not mandatory that you will get a sore throat if you are pregnant.
There is much more reason that can lead to nasal and throat congestion, like a viral infection, allergy, air pollution, asthma etc.
During pregnancy HCG, Estrogen & Progesterone level begins to rise which lead to nausea, muscle ache, headache etc. It may cause throat congestion and increased mucus secretion.
This increased mucus secretion causes post nasal drip. Together with throat congestion, this post nasal drip creates a sore throat like sign and symptoms.
After going through multiple pregnancy-related forum and talking with many pregnant women, we found that most of the women get a sore throat during early pregnancy and mostly during 6 to 12 DPO.
Though there is no any way to prove this theory scientifically neither any study has been carried out that can relate sore throat relation with early pregnancy.

It is likely possible for women during 6 to 12 DPO to experience a sore throat as an early pregnancy symptom but a sore throat can be caused by many other reasons so it is wise to check with your physician and get done the pregnancy test.
What should I do if I get the sign of a sore throat during early pregnancy?
It must be treated by finding its cause. But there are few things you can do before contacting your doctor.
Salt Water Gargle
An old school home remedy that can help to reduce throat irritation. Salt act as anti-bacterial agent.Add one teaspoon of salt in a pint of warm water and dissolve it thoroughly. Then gargle several times a day.
A humidifier helps to keep nasal mucosa moist. Moist nasal mucosa relieves sore throat symptoms.
If you don’t have any humidifier then try inhaling steam which also does wonders to reduce nasal irritation.
Keep Yourself Hydrated
Drink plenty of water. A sore throat can cause the dehydration so keeping yourself hydrated is a good move.
Drink a glass of warm water adding 1 tablespoon of honey and few drops of lemon juice. Lemon is the rich source of vitamin C while honey reduces throat irritation.
Milk with Turmeric Powder
Drink warm milk with turmeric powder. Turmeric powder acts as anti-bacterial agent. If you got a sore throat because of infection then this might help you out.
