Welcome to NFTP Pain Program
The NFTP Pain Management Program at the
Houston Rehabilitation Institute
In cooperation with the Houston Rehabilitation Institute, the NFTP Pain Management Program provides individual treatment planning and a staff made up of your physician, physical therapist, occupational therapist, counselor, and nurse if you are staying in the hospital.
Our program will provide you with the best possible therapy designed to return you to a more productive lifestyle.
Our objectives are to:
- Increase your day-to-day functioning to the highest possible level.
- Improve your quality of life.
- Provide you with the necessary skills and abilities to reach and maintain your goals after you leave the program.
An individual treatment plan is designed for you to help meet your medical, physician, and emotional needs. The program is designed to maximize the amount and quality of therapy you participate in. It is very important for you to follow your treatment plan and schedule as prescribed. Absenteeism and tardiness are not acceptable as they minimize your chances of successfully completing the program. It is also very important to follow through with all therapies and treatments provided to you so that you will fully benefit.
Having a positive attitude and strong motivation will allow you to successfully complete the program and become more independent and satisfied with your ability to cope with your pain.
Important points to remember:
- You are responsible for your meals.
- During your first week, you will be given more one-on-one attention.
- During weeks 2-4, you will be expected to become more independent in your ability to follow your program.
- Some participants find they have more pain after the first week. Most participants find this will ease off as they become more physically fit and better able to cope with their pain.
- Do not begin your exercise program until you are instructed in the proper way to complete it.
- The program is approximately four weeks in duration, Monday-Friday, beginning at 9:00 am.
- Provide for sufficient child care.
- Assume responsibility for transportation. Van service is available within a 10-mile radius of the hospital.
- Please arrive 10 minutes before your schedule therapy.
- If you are an inpatient, you need to go to the nurses' station to obtain your medications.
- If you are an inpatient, you will be responsible for making your bed and keeping your room neat. If you need help with you bed, ask you nurse.
- Housekeeping will be responsible for cleaning your room and bathroom.
Our goal is to improve your ability to cope with your pain. This will require determining the type and dose of pain medication, as well as ultrasound, heat, cold, and massage treatments. You will receive instruction in exercise, nutrition, proper posture, stress management, and relaxation so that you will be able to use the information and skills you have learned in the program and apply them in your home and work environment. If you are suffering from depression, this condition will be medically evaluated and treated.
We are glad you have selected our chronic pain program. We believe it is among the more comprehensive treatment programs available, offering you education, treatment, and support for maintaining your quality of life.
