Physicians' Membership Criteria

Dear Doctor:

This letter is written to to tell you about our National Registry of Pain Treatment Specialists. If you are interested in participating in this program simply check the appropriate boxes when you fill out your electronic Physician Membership Application.

The National Foundation for the Treatment of Pain is a unique organization. Its goals are to meet the needs of the intractable pain patient by bringing together patients, their families, physicians, pharmacists, ancillary medical services, mental health specialists, lawmakers, law enforcement and health-related industries, to create a network of expertise and support to guarantee comprehensive and effective treatment for those who suffer from chronic pain.

The Foundation is seeking physicians who share a passion to assist those who suffer from relentless pain. It asks that physicians who join the foundation understand and are committed to meeting their urgent and unique needs.

The Foundation’s criteria inclusion in our National Registry of Pain Treatment Specialists are:

1. Membership as a medical professional in the National Foundation;
2. Possession of an active and unrestricted license to practice medicine;
3. Board certification or Board eligibility in your area of medical practice;
4. At least two years of experience in the comprehensive treatment of intractable pain;
5. Comprehensive experience in the treatment of pain, including referral for indicated ancillary treatments, and the willingness to employ whatever analgesic medication required to accomplish the effective relief of the patient’s suffering;
6. Commitment to the goal of assisting the patient to function at the highest level of their abilities.

If you indeed share our commitment and are willing to join the Foundation in this new era of hope for intractable pain patients, regardless of the medical cause of their suffering, we are delighted to accept you as a medical affiliate of the Foundation. Please complete the enclosed application and forward it to us at your earliest convenience. In the next year we plan to establish professional links to provide continuing medical education credit and certification in the Treatment of Chronic and Intractable Pain. Your name will be included in our national database and registry to permit appropriate referral for our patient members and networking with your medical colleagues. You will also have complete access to our Web Site to provide links to the most current and in-depth professional and scientific information concerning the treatment of pain.
