The Foundation's goals for 1999
- Results Evaluated:

  1. Achieving state-wide recognition for the Foundation in California through the State Assembly Award to Dr. Harvey Rose, and the awarding of the First Annual Harvey Rose Award for Excellence in the Treatment of Pain;
    This award was presented to Dr. Rose, as planned.

  2. Present seminars in California, in cooperation with the California Medical Association, to implement SB402, and secure grants from foundations and/or others to fund it;

    The seminars have been delayed by the need to secure adequate funding. Legislative funding may be sought to implement the bill.

  3. Establish the National Office and expand the current direct counseling of patients into a 24 hour a day hotline, and win funding of this direct patient service from a third party or foundation.

    This goal continues for 2000.

  4. Enrolling at least 100 new physician members and at least 1,000 new pain patient members;
    This goal continues for 2000.

  5. Begin a privately maintained, but nationwide, program to identify legitimate intractable pain patients and to provide them with an identification card;

    This program has begun.

  6. Begin a nationwide program to enter into cooperative agreements with the State Boards of Medical Examiners and the State Boards of Pharmacy, to recognize the NFTP ID cards;

    This program has been changed to supporting the enactment of the Model Intractable Pain Act of the National Federation of State Medical Boards

  7. Continue the development and on-going support of its WEB page on the Internet, including the National Physicians Registry and the National Legal Data Bank; Assemble a Pain Treatment resource data bank, to provide a national source of the medical, scientific and policy information that supports the practice of the comprehensive and holistic treatment of intractable pain;

    The WEB site is now in its second generation, through the support of its national sponsors. All sub-goals are in the process of implementation and development in the year 2000.

  8. Begin the publication of a national Newsletter;

    The Newsletter has been incorporated in the WEB site.

  9. Establish a national pharmacy for NFTP members;

    The NFTP On-line Pharmacy will be in place within the next 60 days.

  10. Initiate landmark federal legislation to establish the right to adequate pain treatment as a civil right;

    The NFTP, through the National Pain Advocacy Consortium, is advocating for inclusion of pain patients rights in the Federal Patients Bill of Rights.

  11. Secure grants and sponsorship from foundations, corporations, and qualified individuals sufficient to permanently establish the Foundation’s existence.

The Foundation has obtained grants from a number of corporations, organizations and foundations, and will continue to seek major funding to permanently establish its existence.
